Overview

Quiet Cricket Studio is an audio post production studio in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The founders reached out seeking a visual identity and website to launch their new partnership and company.

Both the studio name and space reflect the ethos of the founders—warm, welcoming and a bit quirky; any visual communication needed to do the same. This ethos is not only genuinely lived by the founders but a differentiator in a field where visuals tend to skew dark and cold.

Design Process

We explored themes and imagery related to sound (vibration, equipment) and nature (crickets, ambient sound). We considered tensions (quiet/loud volume) and associated letterforms (q, c).

To focus on the merit of each concept, three early ideas were presented in black and white. These included a “q” taking the form of sound equipment, a vibrating “C”, and a line drawing of a cricket with headphones.

We selected the line drawing and spent the subsequent weeks refining and working through the color palette and typography.

Solution

A simple line drawing with flexible visual elements speaks to the studio name and expertise. The friendly wordmark can stand alone or within the asymmetrical circle. The bold yet not primary color palette is warm and versatile.

With style guide in hand, we created brand materials including business cards, pelican case stickers and a Squarespace website. The website has little navigation and relies on a long scrolling homepage to showcase the space, recent work samples, service offerings and most importantly, ways to connect.
